Brothers and able seamen, Thomas and Robert Webb, were crew members of the HMS Sirius that weighed anchor in 1787 and set sail as the flag ship of the First Fleet bound for Botany Bay.

After reaching Australia in 1788, Thomas returned to England to collect his and his brother’s wages, before promptly returning to Australia with a convict wife to be and, notably, a small still.

Seizing every opportunity presented by the new colony’s insatiable lust for spirits, the Webb brothers used that small still to draw a wheat-based spirit and become Australia’s first distillers and spirit producers in 1793. Given the government’s tight control over the supply of alcohol at that time, they were bold, entrepreneurial, hard-working types, who were clearly just a little bit cheeky.

Inspired by the Webb brother’s story, and their pioneering spirit of adventure, Webb Spirit Co was founded by Dan Webb to create a family owned and operated local suburban distillery that seeks to produce innovative and interesting spirits, handcrafted from locally sourced produce that highlight native Australian botanicals.
